Why did you choose Covenant?
I chose Covenant because it was the place that gave me a sense of inner peace in the
midst of the college decision process. When I stepped onto campus, I could sense the
community that brought everyone together, and I wanted to be a part of it.
What aspect of Covenant do you like the best?
My favorite part of Covenant is the relationships that push you outside of your individual
class. People intentionally seek each other out, and it really feels like a family.
Which professor(s) has most impacted your thinking, and how?
Dr. Horne has impacted my thinking the most by teaching me that there is no area of
study or life that is not in the hand of God. Even the areas that seem the scariest
and furthest from the Lord (like politics) ultimately reflect the Creator and his
glory. Dr. Horne also makes incredible pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.
What do you most enjoy about your major?
I enjoy learning about government systems around the world while looking at them through
the lens of Scripture. At its core, political science is a perfect picture of broken
systems run by broken people who are in desperate need of a savior. The classes are
always filled with good conversations and a wide range of opinions and opportunities
to expand my thinking.
What do you hope to pursue after graduation?
After graduation, I hope to pursue law school.
How is Covenant preparing you for success in your calling?
Covenant has prepared me for success in my calling by challenging me to be diligent
in listening to the Lord’s voice. My professors have pushed me out of my comfort zone
and equipped me with the tools necessary to succeed.
How is Covenant equipping you for active membership in the church?
By providing many outlets to students seeking a church body, Covenant pushes and motivates
each student to not only attend church but to become an active member in a church
community. From speakers in chapel to upperclassmen advocating on behalf of their
church, church involvement is foundational to the Covenant community as a whole. By
asking hard questions in the classroom, professors push us to seek answers and truth
outside of the classroom by rooting ourselves in a church.
In what ways does Covenant foster spiritual growth?
Covenant is very intentional in their attempts to foster spiritual growth. Events
like hall prayer and praise, accountability within the hall, and a strong core curriculum
help students reflect on their spiritual state above all else.
How does residence life add to/support your academic, professional, and/or spiritual
development?
Residence life adds to development in every way. The support you feel from living
on a hall and in a building with like-minded people is unmatched in any other stage
of life. There is always someone to comfort you and push you to improve.
How have your relationships at Covenant shaped your expectations for the other communities
God will call you to in life?
My relationships at Covenant have quite literally set a standard for the communities
that I will invest in later in life. To know what it is like to commune in fellowship
with believers shapes expectations for the various communities I will invest in, but
more importantly, it gives me a picture of how I should respond faithfully and obediently
to the Lord’s call, knowing the importance of community wherever I go.
What’s your favorite way to spend free time on and/or off campus?
My favorite way to spend free time is in conversation with other Covenant students.
There is so much we can learn from each other, and quality time is the best way to
see these things in one another. I enjoy conversations while going for a drive, on
a walk, or at a good coffee shop.
What’s your favorite Covenant College event and why?
My favorite Covenant College event is Jazz on the Overlook because it is more casual
than some dances. Everyone just dances with whomever they want, and the whole community
has fun together.
