Single Session Therapy

Priesthill Center Counseling Services is excited to offer Single Session Therapy(SST) to the students at Covenant College. This service is especially helpful for students who want help with a particular issue and need to get “unstuck.” SST involves coming in for one therapy session with no commitment or expectation to return. SST gets students connected with one of our therapists quickly—usually the same or the next day—to help solve a particular problem that is causing distress. The goal will be to work towards solutions, rely on strengths, and give tools to help solve a single issue.

Single Session Therapy may be a helpful option for you if:

• You have noticed a decrease in your mood and want to talk to a counselor about it
• You are experiencing relationship concerns and want feedback about it
• You are looking for solutions that you can implement now
• You are stressed about balancing the demands of academic and extracurricular life
• You have a difficult decision to make

Single Session Therapy is not a good fit if:

• You are in a crisis
• You want to develop an ongoing relationship with a counselor
• You believe that you need longer-term support for a more complex issue

If you need immediate psychological assistance for a life threatening emergency, call 911 immediately. If you need immediate psychological assistance on campus after hours that is not a life threatening emergency, contact your resident director or the resident director on call at 706-450-7001.

How do I make an appointment?
Call 706-419-1275 at 8 am on the day you would like to see a counselor and ask for a Single Session Therapy appointment. Our Office Coordinator will let you know what times are available and help find an appointment that works best for you. You are also welcome to come down to our office in person. You may call after 8 am, but the likelihood of having a next day appointment will increase.

What if I need more than one session?
Single sessions are not meant to replace traditional counseling. If you decide you would like to sign-up for traditional counseling through the Priesthill Center, you can do that (even if you have already met for a Single Session Therapy appointment). You can call or come down to Jackson Hall to request Single Session Therapy or traditional counseling appointments at any point. Each student will have two Single Session Therapy appointments per semester to use as needed.
