Kresge Memorial Library
Kresge Memorial Library exists to facilitate and promote learning through its physical facilities, dynamic and evolving collections, robust technology, and services performed by professional and skilled support staff.
Construction of the Kresge Memorial Library was completed in 1972 with extensive renovations concluded in summer 2008. Stanley Kresge, a supporter of the College, was a leading contributor to the building and it was named in honor of his mother.
The first floor of Kresge contains the library's print collections, an area for personalized reference service, a coffee lounge, and a variety of library seating such as reading tables, lounge chairs, and individual study carrels. The environment promotes an atmosphere of casual, socially engaging learning.
Wireless Internet (both campus network and Wi-Fi) is available throughout the building and in the surrounding green space. Wired, public access computers are located in the reference area on the first floor and on the second level. Several of these machines have a full complement of productivity software installed.
The second floor is a quiet study area housing individually assigned study carrels for seniors working on their Capstone Projects, five semi-private group study rooms, the library's audio-visual collection, the College archives, backfiles of print periodicals, the microform collection, a seminar classroom, the campus art gallery, Center for Student Success, and the campus Writing Center with tutorial assistance.
Current print and multimedia collections total over 100,000 volumes. In addition, the library owns almost 60,000 electronic books, offers access to more than 10,000 electronic full-text journals, magazines and newspapers (many with backfiles to the 19th century), and subscribes to nearly 175 electronic databases covering the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Many of these electronic resources are available through GALILEO, Georgia's "Virtual Library." Through its membership in OCLC, the world's largest provider of bibliographic services, Kresge library networks with over 18,000 other institutions worldwide to offer interlibrary loan access and document delivery services to over 1.3 billion library items.
