SERVE Program

Jesus taught that to be a leader, one must first be a willing servant (Matthew 20:26-28). At Covenant, we believe the Bible teaches the value of all kinds of work and our Reformed faith highlights our duty to serve God by serving His Church as a part of the body of Christ and serving the fallen world around us in various ways.To support this, the SERVE Program helps us lead students in following Christ’s example by:

  • Meeting the needs of Covenant College and the local community
  • Creating a culture of service
  • Teaching students to put God and others before themselves, as shown in God’s Word (Luke 9:23, Philippians 2:3-4, Galatians 5:13-14, Matthew 16:24)

SERVE Program

First-year students are required to complete 10 hours of service per semester for Covenant College. One semester, students will do daily tasks including cleaning campus buildings, moving furniture, and grounds work. The other semester, students will choose to help with the preparation and execution of events, like Homecoming and SneakPEAK.

Second-year students are required to complete 5 hours of service per semester with churches or other non-profit organizations in the community. All off-campus opportunities must be approved by the Office of Student Development.

Participation in the SERVE program is required of all full-time Covenant College first and second-year students. Full-time students are those taking 12 hours or more.

Those exempt from the SERVE Program are married students and part-time students.

serve program

Our hope is that seniors will graduate with hearts tuned to serve, seeing others as more significant than themselves (Philippians 2:3-4).

Voluntary service opportunities will be emphasized during the entire tenure of a student’s time at Covenant, whether it be hall service projects, athletic teams’ projects, MLK Day On, or other options that present themselves from Chattanooga and the surrounding communities. All students will have the opportunity to volunteer by contacting the Student Development office for information about opportunities throughout the year.

Any questions regarding the SERVE Program should be directed to the Student Development Office:
