How do I file a Title IX Complaint?

On Campus Reporting Options

There is a team of staff who have been specifically trained to investigate Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Issues on campus and between students. Covenant College has designated the following individuals to serve in official capacity regarding Title IX reporting:

Designated Title IX Team

Name Title IX Position Office Phone Email
Sarah Erickson Title IX Coordinator Brock 309 706-419-1116 sarah.erickson
Tom Dewey Deputy Coordinator for Employees Carter 103 706-419-1105 tom.dewey
Nesha Evans Deputy Coordinator for Students Carter 138C 706-419-1106 nesha.evans

Making a report to a member of the Title IX team, a “Formal Complaint”, will begin the official Title IX process.

Meeting with a Title IX team member does not obligate a student to file a Formal Complaint. The College aims to support each individual in making decisions to report, and will respect an individual’s autonomy in deciding how to proceed to the extent possible. In this process, the College will balance the individual’s interest with its obligation to provide a safe and nondiscriminatory environment for all members of the College community.

All Formal Complaints will be investigated thoroughly through a federally mandated process explained further in the next section.

Amnesty: Addressing Concerns for Reporting Due to Standards of Conduct Violations

Reporting sexual harassment, harassment, discrimination, and related inappropriate conduct is encouraged at Covenant College. Thus, it is imperative that parties share information without fear of potential policy violations including but not limited to underage consumption of alcohol, personal consumption of alcohol, the use of illicit drugs, or violations of other College policies that do not cause harm or place the health or safety of any other person at risk.

Covenant College offers parties and witnesses amnesty from such violations, but may be responsible for other, more serious conduct that does harm or place the health or safety of any other person at risk ("Amnesty"). After granting Amnesty, Covenant College may include educational opportunities for individuals in lieu of a finding of responsibility or punitive sanctions regarding alcohol or drugs. This section does not apply to reports to the police; rather, it applies only to discipline for violations of Covenant College’s Code of Conduct.
