Theatre

Theatre

In today's media-saturated postmodern culture, understanding how dramatic art works and impacts audiences and practitioners is vital. As an influential mode of cultural communication, it would be irresponsible to not proclaim the Kingdom of God in this marketplace. In our department, students learn to serve through story and use their God-given talents to embody His love for their neighbors on campus, in the church, and in the wider dramatic arts community.

Program Overview

Students can choose to study theatre as a minor or as an interdisciplinary studies concentration. If a student's primary concentration is theatre, they may complete a theatre capstone such as performing, directing, writing, or designing. Covenant also produces three mainstage productions a year, open to all students. Typically, a year will include a fall play, spring musical, and spring play.

We live in a media-saturated, narrative-focused culture. We need to be in that place, redeeming that area of culture, because art is gorgeous and beautiful and needs to be redeemed for the sake of Christ.

Programs & Features

The theatre minor or concentration trains students to understand the dramatic arts as both informed audience members and godly-wise arts practitioners. By developing both critical and production skills and developing Christian ethical problem-solving skills, students will learn to use their artistic talents to glorify God and serve others in professional, educational, or para-theatrical settings.
