History
History
Historical thinking is an essential feature of faithful living. To think historically is to understand events, ideas, institutions, and civilizations within their thick and varied contexts. It involves honing a keen awareness of how all the dimensions of the creation are shaped by processes rooted in the remote and recent past.

Program Overview
We believe in the importance of grounded, God-honoring civic reasoning for a vibrant society. Because of this, the history program challenges our students to deliberate thoughtfully in order to understand the shape, political dynamics, and historical roots of the modern world and to ask questions informed by the realities of historical development. We cultivate in students the skills, knowledge, and virtues necessary for thinking historically.
Students who study history develop a deeper understanding of certain aspects of the past and are able to think critically regarding issues surrounding teaching and writing history specifically as Christians. Our department offers both a major and minor in history and a concentration in art history to achieve these goals.
Graduate Outcomes
A degree in history leads to vocations in teaching, journalism, law, government service, pastoral ministry, academic scholarship, business, architecture history, and a host of other fields that benefit from a strong foundation in research skills, writing aptitude, and general training in the liberal arts.
