Art

Art

Art matters in the lives of all humans. In the art department, we learn how to view and create art that helps us grow in our love for God and our neighbor. Whether a student chooses to focus on 2D arts, 3D arts, photography, graphic design, or art history, they will engage with art of the past while faithfully responding to the needs and questions of our present culture.

Program Overview

Our views and methods in art grow from three main commitments. First, we know that we bear the image of a Creator who called creation "good." We guide students in exploring a variety of mediums and strategies that will help them better understand making art as an act of worship. We also want our students to recognize evidence of God's grace in the art of other image bearers.

Second, we understand that art needs community. Our vibrant department is intentional about mentoring as well as building peer relationships. Students are challenged to consider the role that art can play in campus, church, and broader, yet local communities.

And third, we believe that art flourishes within conversations. A sturdy theological framework and invitation into the work and questions of other disciplines offers a rich context for making and interpreting art as Christians.
