Pianist David Berry To Join Covenant College's John Hamm Concert Series

Covenant College continues its twelfth season of the John Hamm Performing Arts Series on Thursday, October 22 with a recital by acclaimed pianist David Berry. The recital will take place in the Dora Maclellan Brown Memorial Chapel and Fine Arts Center and feature pieces from Berry's newest album, Spirit, Body and Soul: Concert Spirituals for Solo Piano.

A truly versatile artist, pianist David Berry has established a multifaceted career as a concert performer, composer, educator, and speaker. Ranging from intense virtuosity to deeply intimate reflection, the works on this new album are imbued with the full gamut of human emotion that lives within the tradition of the spirituals. Berry’s style, praised as “touchingly introspective” by Gramophone, blends the power, sweep, and virtuosity of the classical piano tradition descended from Liszt and Rachmaninoff with the soul essence and elements of various Black music styles in a unique journey through these cherished spirituals.

The John Hamm Performing Arts Series brings world-renowned musical artists to Covenant’s campus to offer recitals and educational opportunities that serve students as well as the surrounding Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain communities. The recitals and master classes are free and open to the public, thanks to the partnership of generous donors.
