Important Security Update Regarding Canvas

On May 7, Canvas and its parent company, Instructure. experienced a cyberattack that affected institutions nationwide. According to Instructure, the issue has now been identified and contained. Their investigation found no evidence that passwords or financial information were accessed. 

At this time, the information believed to have been exposed is limited to information like names, email addresses and other directory information. Incidents like this can increase the likelihood of phishing attempts or scam emails, we want to ensure you are informed and able to take the appropriate precautions. 

Take the following precautions: 

Be aware: Remain cautious of unexpected emails, messages, or links, even if they appear to come from Canvas or Covenant College. Carefully verify the sender’s email address before responding or clicking links. Avoid downloading any content from unknown sources.

Protect your passwords and multifactor authentication: Never share your password through email or online forms. When available, take advantage of using multifactor authentication as another layer of security and protection. 

Covenant College and Canvas will never ask you to verify your password via email link. 

Our commitment to you is continuing to protect the security and privacy of our community. Covenant College continues to follow security best practices, including multifactor authentication, ongoing cybersecurity training, and monitoring of our systems and services. 

We will continue to stay in close communication with Canvas and will share additional information as is needed. This will not impact graduation and should not delay final grades that are due on Monday.
