Silent Sky, written by Lauren Gunderson, follows the true story of Henrietta Leavitt. Leavitt mirrors Gunderson’s own mentors, Annie Cannon and Williamina Fleming, astronomers and women that defied expectations and sought out the exceptional. Leavitt’s refusal to abandon her search for knowledge in the face of opposition laid the foundation for others to understand the vastness of our universe.
Cara Smole ’22, director of Silent Sky, states, “In Henrietta’s search to answer the literal question, where are we in the universe, she discovers how meaning comes from something far outside of ourselves.”
