Chamber Orchestra Concert
The Covenant College music department will present a spring concert from the Covenant College Chamber Orchestra on April 10, 2014.
Under the direction of Prof. Lok Kim, the orchestra will perform four pieces from the early classical period to the late Romantic period. Audience members can look forward to Iphigenia in Aulis, an overture by Christoph W. Gluck; Intermezzo from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana, by Pietro Mascagni; Serenade Lyrique, by Edward Elgar; and Symphony No. 39, Eb Major, by W. A. Mozart.
“When people hear Mozart symphonies, I am sure that his symphonies 40 and 41 pop into their heads immediately, because those are his two most famous pieces,” said Prof. Kim. “However, in my opinion, his Symphony No. 39 is his best work and has been overshadowed by these two. The piece has been always in my wish list, but I have never conducted it before because it requires highly trained skill and technique for the performers and I did not want to conduct the piece badly. Thankfully, God has finally allowed my students and me to perform the piece. I hope this concert benefits the audience as they discover this great work.”
The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel and is free and open to the public.
