COVID-19 Relief Funds: Helping Fellow & Future Scots
We are incredibly grateful for the many alumni and friends of Covenant who have gifted over $75,000 to our COVID-19 Relief Funds. The Lord continues to provide for Covenant and our students in many ways, even as we face challenging current realities.
As Christians, we have a hope that cannot be shaken, even in the face of a global health crisis. Revelation 21:3-5 feels especially relevant now: “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’ And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’”
Even so, the coronavirus pandemic continues to shape our everyday life and global economy, and we are working to steward our resources well and appropriately plan for the future. Many Covenant College students will be affected financially, and Covenant is already adjusting to the financial impact on our school. Students are facing financial strain due to:
- Lack of summer job opportunities
- Job loss of students, parents, and other family members
- For some students, additional/sudden expenses from packing up, shipping, and/or storing possessions two months earlier than anticipated
- General economic downturn affecting many Covenant families
We invite alumni, Covenant families, and friends of the college to stand with us as you are able in our efforts to care for our students and our campus community through two special funds: the COVID-19 Student Relief Fund and the COVID-19 Covenant Support Fund.
Covenant has always sought to meet the needs of students through financial aid. That will not change now. For students who may be struggling with how to return to Covenant this fall, we will provide relief through our Student Relief Fund.
Additionally, our Covenant Support Fund will provide relief for college financial losses related to COVID-19 and help to ensure that Covenant remains a great place to live and learn. Our decision to refund prorated room and board costs, while appropriate to the situation, created a significant and unexpected expense to the college.
