POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Head Athletic Trainer is a full-time 12 month position. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible to the Director of Athletics for the management and development of all aspects of a collegiate training room including but not limited to the duties assigned below. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Discipleship of direct reports and student athletes under the care of the training room
  • Responsible for Hiring, supervision, and development of assistant athletic trainer(s), interns, and work study students in the training room
  • Assist in recruiting and retention of student athletes through the pursuit of excellence in athletic training 
  • Responsible for the care, prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student athletes athletic injuries, as well as record keeping, administrative duties and operation, maintenance, organization, and professional appearance of the athletic training room and equipment
  • Provide medical coverage for all teams during all varsity practices, and all home events and selected away games
  • Coordinate medical communication between the student-athletes, coaches, on campus health services office, and physicians
  • Coordinate the collection, input, organization, and maintenance of the student-athlete’s medical records including determining medical clearance for participation
  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies
  • Order all appropriate supplies while also planning for, and overseeing  the athletic training budget
  • Contribute to, and care for, the development and growth of the athletic department as a whole
  • Comply with the NATABOC Standards of Professional Practice, and NATA Code of Ethics
  • Oversee partnership with UT-Chattanooga Athletic Training program to provide qualified interns each year
  • Potential exists for teaching health and fitness related course(s) for qualified candidates 
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree from a CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Program 
  • NATA and BOC certification, Licensure in the State of Georgia; CPR/AED certification
  • Proficiency with Google Apps or Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s Degree from a CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Program
  • Collegiate Athletic Training Experience
  • First-Aid/CPR instructor certification
  • Understanding of NCAA regulations as they relate to sports medicine
  • Professional Strength and Conditioning certification 
  • College teaching experience

  • An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College
  • Must be able to assent to Covenant College’s Staff Commitments
