Responsible for all external communication of the Financial Aid Office, i.e.) answering questions of current and prospective students and their families. Also manages the Covenant College Work Study program and facilitates the awarding of all internal and endowed scholarships. 


  • Communications
    • Manage all external communications of the Financial Aid Office 
    • Communicate by phone, email, or in person with students and parents providing them with information on Covenant College’s financial aid philosophy and policies, FAFSA and federal regulations
    • Answer general financial aid questions and assist students in getting information from their web accounts
  • Resolve all issues related to banner and help with general financial aid requirements
    • Inform students and parents of banner and the importance of its use and regarding missing paperwork, account balances, etc.
    • Communicate with students regarding types of loans and requirements for loans
    • Notify families of missing requirements for verification and FAFSA purposes
    • Serve as the lead communicator for financial aid appeals
    • Assist the Financial Aid Advisor, Awarding in communications to students about Professional Judgements
  • Award Internal or Endowed Scholarships 
    • Exchange endowed and restricted funds for other institutional funds in accordance with federal regulations and donor criteria
    • Notify chosen recipients of the specific endowed and restricted funds awarded and inform students of a possible thank you note requirement
    • Using established criteria, determine the eligibility of incoming students for the various scholarships. Maintain  endowed and restricted software for donor requirements and hardcopy files
  • Work Study
    • Responsible for the overall coordination and management of the campus work study program. 
      • Assign the appropriate number of students for each department based on budgets and budget officers’ recommendations
      • Survey all faculty and staff divisions for student labor needs annually and appropriate student employees accordingly. 
      • Stay informed of all Federal regulations in regard to the work study program by reading the FSA Handbook related portion, relevant websites and attending training as necessary
      • Oversee work study budget and recommend changes and improvements
      • Assign and issue work study contracts to students for open positions based on federal and college guidelines
      • Track, update, and maintain letters, documents, and forms related to the work study program
      • Ensure the supervisors of student workers are trained
      • Serve as a request for supervisors in resolving work-related issues, referring to HR when necessary
      • Supervise work study students in filing the FAFSA worksheet C in regards to need-based work
  • Set up banner work study process annually
    • Work with HR to set up student employees accurately in the payroll system
    • Balance with the Accounting Office in all student work related funds
    • Assist students with questions about their paychecks
    • Keep current on regulatory issues in regards to work study payroll and timecard completion balancing and redistributing funds student by student to match the federal allocation 
  • Implement the Community Service Program
    • Stay informed in regards to federal regulations in relation to this program
    • Choose and visit off-campus sites to ensure compliance, obtain signed contacts as needed
    • Determine budget expenditures to be spent each year in each program
    • Hire and supervise students at each site
    • Evaluate each student in Community Service and America Reads Program
  • Aid in financial aid audits 
    • Audit preparation is done on an annual basis and involves preparing reports, reviewing student files or awards, and providing other information as requested by the independent audit firm or the state agency
  • Fulfill such other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to use discretion in sensitive and confidential employee matters

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • 0-3 years of related experience 
  • familiarity with/or the ability to learn relevant federal and state regulations

  • Masters degree
  • Previous financial aid experience

  • Acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College
  • Must be able to assent to Covenant College Staff Commitments

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines
  • Remain in a stationary position at least 90% of the work day
  • Lifting: occasionally; classified as light, lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 10 lbs.
