Why did you choose Covenant?

I sought a college where both my mind and my soul would be nurtured for the next four years of life, and the Lord very plainly directed my path to this incredible institution. “Christ preeminent in all things” is a motto that is truly manifest on this campus in very tangible and beautiful ways.

How is Covenant unique?

Covenant is unique in that it offers strong academia under the umbrella of a well-founded Christian worldview, and a warm, flourishing, Christian-minded community. I truly believe that.

Why Biblical and Theological Studies?

When choosing my major, the most important factor that went into my decision was the question: what am I most passionate about? A seemingly simple question, and yet I had to ask myself what it was that I wanted to devote my heart, mind, and soul to, not just during my four years at college, but during the following years as well. Choosing a major on the basis of what kind of money I might make after school or what job I might attain was out of the question, because learning is not just a mental endeavor; it's a heart endeavor, a spirit endeavor, something not worth wasting. In that light, then, my passion to know God and understand his Word more fully triumphed over all else in the academic arena and that is what led me to the biblical and theological department at Covenant College, a place where my passions are now being founded more and more upon knowledge. There is no getting off this train, but who'd want to get off such a wondrous ride anyway?

What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?

Mountain Affair: a splendid showcase of Covenant College’s talent in the music sphere. There is nothing elementary about it.

What is your favorite class, and why?

“Old Testament” with Dr. Scott Jones. His lectures are incredible. I love his insight into the Old Testament and why it is applicable to me. I have him for Greek as well and I am constantly writing down insightful or humorous quotes from him in the margins of my paper. He really is that good.

What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you, and why?

Bethany Doster is one of the most encouraging, godly, hilarious, smart, creative, and thoughtful human beings I have ever met. We are longtime best friends from home, so I suppose I’m somewhat biased, but if you meet her, you’ll understand.

What's your favorite part of the day at Covenant?

You know those times when the sun just seems to want to brush the mountains with a kiss? Those times are my favorite. “How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains!” (John Muir)

What are your post-graduation plans?

Although I have no finite plans as of yet, I do hope to be doing inner-city work in the States or missions overseas upon my graduation from Covenant. One thing is for certain; the Lord is not bound to my plans. I fully expect to be surprised.

Why missions?

Missions has always laid heavily on my heart, maybe because a major part of my passion for God involves spreading his kingdom here on earth through ministry, serving as he served, loving as he loved. I don't know where God will take me after college, but right now my prayer is for God to open my eyes to the hurting all around as I live out my daily life. My mission field, and the mission field of Covenant College is always before us. Every day of my life is an opportunity to obey the great commission, because the greatest need of the community is Christ. Let God take me where he will. I'll be preparing and serving in the meantime.

How is Covenant equipping you for the future?

Covenant is teaching me how to live a life of truth and faithfulness in every area of influence, with the teachings of Christ engraved foremost in my mind, and his joy flowing through my heart!
