Sue Webb Named Head Tennis Coach
Sue Webb has joined Covenant College as head coach for the men's and women's tennis teams, following the departure of Katherine Smith, who has decided, after four years of good service, to focus on her family and real estate business.
Webb served eleven years as head coach for the Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) Chargers tennis teams, leading the girls' team to five state championships and the boys' team to four. A former member of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga tennis team, she won the Southern Conference Championship in 1983, 1984 and 1985 and reached the NCAA Division II semifinals in 1985. Webb was inducted into the UTC Hall of Fame in 1996 and into the Greater Chattanooga Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
A former native of Great Britain, Webb represented her country in the International Tennis Federation World Team Championships in New Zealand, Mexico, and Spain from 2009-2011. She won the Senior British National Indoor Championships in 2009, and represented Team Southern in the National Senior Women's Intersectionals from 1995 to 2010.
"I'm really excited about coaching at Covenant," says Webb. "It will be a nice transition for me, having been at a Christian high school and moving to another Christ-centered college in Covenant. . . . While I will miss everyone down at CCS, I look forward to the future at Covenant and to building it into a top-level program."
Webb begins her duties with the Scots and Lady Scots this fall.
