Covenant College welcomed 249 new alumni at its 59th annual commencement ceremony on May 10, 2014. Families and friends of students joined Covenant's faculty and staff to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2014.
Commencement exercises began with pomp and circumstance as the Covenant Pipe & Drum Corps led a processional of the Class of 2014 and the faculty to the tune of Highland Cathedral. After an invocation from Spanish professor Diana Cochran, graduates Grace Hooper '14, Andrew Bankson '14, and Anne Hartman '14 gave testimonies about how they've grown and changed in their time at Covenant. Professor John Holberg, Covenant's research, instruction, & special collections librarian, delivered the commencement address. "The end of education is to know God accurately," said Prof. Holberg. "Out of this right knowledge then we use our knowledge to be like Christ--to minister to one another in love."
Professors Jeff Hall, Camille Hallstrom, and Matthew Vos presented candidates for graduation, and President J. Derek Halvorson awarded the degrees. Physical education professor Brian Crossman led the assembly in a prayer for the graduates, and Chairman Martin Moore presented a commendation from the Board of Trustees. The ceremony concluded with the singing of the College hymn, All for Jesus, and a prayer from psychology professor Michael Rulon. The pipe & drum corps led the graduates and faculty in a recessional to the tunes of Amazing Grace and Scotland the Brave.
