Choral Ensembles in Concert
On Friday, April 25, 2014, the Covenant College music department will present Covenant’s chorale and chamber singers in a spring concert centered on the theme "Of Life & Love."
Under the direction of Dr. Scott Finch ’97, the concert will feature works from as far back as the fifth century up to the twentieth century. Music from Mozart, Brahms, and traditional music from the Xhosa people is included in the concert program, among many other selections celebrating the wonder of God’s love, salvation, and creation.
“One of the wonderful things about the liberal arts is that we believe in special revelation and general revelation,” said Dr. Finch. “God has asked us to delight in life and to live it abundantly. Mozart’s Magnificat—Mary’s song—can be summed up in the word amazement. Mary magnifies the Lord, not because of what she has done, but because of the many things He has done. He has taken the misfits of the world and done great things.”
In addition to choral ensembles, the Covenant chamber orchestra will perform under the direction of Prof. Lok Kim, and the concert will feature Amber Snow and Jeremy Taylor ’14 as collaborative pianists. Covenant’s ballroom dancers will accompany the Brahms waltzes, bringing even greater variety to the evening.
“The final set has a powerful piece, Lord of the Small,” said Dr. Finch. “Like Mary, we take delight because our God specializes in doing great things with small people like us.”
The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
