Joel Fan to Present Concert
On April 4, 2014, the Covenant College music department will present renowned pianist Joel Fan in concert at 7:30 p.m.
Joel Fan studied at the Juilliard Pre-College Division, and later received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. He went on to receive a master of music degree in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory. Fan has won numerous international competitions, including the Busoni International Piano Competition in Italy. He has performed alongside Yo-Yo Ma, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Singapore Philharmonic, and more.
Fan has released multiple CDs, including World-Keys and West of the Sun. World-Keys features music from ten different countries and reached number three on the Billboard Classical Chart. Most recently, Fan released his third CD, Revelations, as a tribute to his mentor, American composer Leon Kirchner.
“Due to the fact that the Covenant Arts series is not taking place on our campus anymore, we have had very limited opportunities to appreciate music from professional musicians since 2012,” said Prof. Lok Kim. “This concert will satisfy your desire to appreciate music. Joel Fan will bring the excitement of a variety of piano literatures from the early to contemporary periods.”
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The night’s program will include selections from Wagner, Brahms, Liszt, Gershwin, and others.
