Trevor Potts Named Head Golf Coach
Covenant College has hired Trevor Potts as head golf coach. Potts arrives on staff after completing his final semester at Covenant College. Tom Schreiner, who served well as head coach for five years, continues in his role at Covenant as director of auxiliary enterprises.
During his time as a student, Potts was a member of the Scots golf team, first as a player and then an assistant coach. "Trevor is a great fit for our golf program, and we are excited to have the opportunity to develop him as a young coach," said Director of Athletics Tami Smialek. "Our golf teams are ready to move to the next level and compete in the NCAA DIII, and I feel Trevor has the potential to lead them there."
During Potts' four years as a golfer at Covenant, he earned honors as a member of the Freshman All-Conference team (2006-2007 season) when Covenant was a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Potts was also one of three Scots invited to participate in the NCCAA national tournament in 2009, and was a member of Tom Schreiner's coaching staff a year later, when the entire team earned an invitation.
"I'm really excited for the opportunity to give back to Covenant after playing there for four years," said Potts. "I look forward to growing both programs into top contenders, not only in the conference, but at the national level as well."
Potts' head coaching career begins as the Lady Scots travel to Columbus, Georgia, for the Columbus State Invitational.
