Author and Professor James K. A. Smith Presents WIC Lecture Series
On February 10-11, 2011, Covenant's annual Women in the Church (WIC) Lecture Series will be presented by Dr. James K. A. Smith. A professor of philosophy at Calvin College, Smith is the author and editor of numerous books, including Desiring the Kingdom: Worship, Worldview, and Cultural Formation and Letters to a Young Calvinist: An Invitation to the Reformed Tradition.
Says Covenant Professor of History Jay Green: "It is a rare treat for us to host someone like Smith, who is helping to reshape the discourse of Christian scholarship, and doing so from within our own tradition of Reformed Christianity."
Thursday, February 10
Chapel: We Are What We Love: From Thinking Things to Desiring Creatures
Friday, February 11
Chapel: Love Takes Practice: Christian Worship and Virtue Formation
In addition to the chapel lectures, Professor Smith is offering a one-hour for-credit course on Thursday and Friday evenings (6:30-10:30 p.m.) and Saturday morning (8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon). The class will meet in Brock Hall 118-122. Extra seating is available for anyone who wishes to attend all or part of the class. You may contact Professor Green for more information.
These lectures are made possible through a generous gift from the Presbyterian Church in America's Women in the Church.
