Ruth Naomi Floyd To Speak, Give Concert
Jazz vocalist and composer Ms. Ruth Naomi Floyd will speak in chapel at Covenant College on February 7, 2014, and that evening will give a concert co-hosted by New City Fellowship and Covenant College.
For over seventeen years, Ms. Floyd has created jazz settings that express Christian theology. She has released several highly acclaimed recordings, consisting primarily of original compositions. She has recorded and/or performed with such notable instrumentalists as James Newton, Gary Thomas, Terri Lyne Carrington, Uri Caine, and T.K. Blue.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, MS, Floyd is the daughter of urban missionaries. She accepted Christ when she was a child, and the immense body of music from the Christian faith has been an important influence on her throughout her life. She began to develop and share her musical talents as a young child by singing in church choirs and studying piano, flute, and bassoon.
The chapel service at Covenant College begins at 11:00 a.m. The concert will take place at New City Fellowship in Chattanooga, TN, at 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
