Craig Randal Johnson to Present Piano Recital
Pianist Craig Johnson will perform in the chapel at Covenant College on January 23, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. Johnson earned his BA from the University of Minnesota, and later his MM from Northwestern University. In addition to his formal degrees, Johnson has studied conducting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Domaine Conducting School, and the Aspen Music School.
Currently residing in Minneapolis, Johnson has performed around the country and internationally in Germany, Finland, New York, Connecticut, California, and more. In addition to his talents as a pianist, Johnson founded and conducts the Minnehaha Music Repertory Orchestra in Minnesota. He’s employed his conducting expertise around the world, conducting the Florida Symphony, Rome Festival Orchestra in Italy, North Star Opera, Superior Festival Orchestra, Marquette Symphony, and other ensembles.
Johnson’s solo recital will include American ballads for piano, composed by Roy Harris, Five Bagatelles, composed by Joonas Kokkonen, and more. Johnson’s specialties in Finnish and American music are reflected in the recital selections.
The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
